Pond Report

Through building and maintaining beautiful nature aquaria people re-learn the intricate connections between forms of life, plants, fish, microorganism and humans. Riches and beauty come from harmony, from balance. Aquaria are great teachers of this truth. Takashi Amano

Waterfall

Time to update this blog. I decided to make a small waterfall on this pond.
Photo 1;
First step was to clean the bush standing in the way.
Photo 2;
Wider shot. This pond looks very natural rather than arranged. The way I like it.

Photo 3;removing the weed took some time

Photo 4;
I added a big pile of soil, creating the shape.
Photo 5;
I put the pond liner over the soil and started placing different sized rocks.

Photo 6;
After all was placed as planed, I connected the pump that pumps 3500L/h. I also planted some moss over the stones.
Photo 7;
Job done. It still needs a lot of work to look as I planed. New plants will be planted soon.

My first pond cleaning.

I was for a few days in Denmark visiting my parents in law with my dear wife. They have a beautiful ranch in the part of Jutland and a POND! My father in law said that he would like to bury the pond since it is over grown and they do not have patience to work on it anymore. I got pretty upset with that idea so I asked them to reconsider and if I look after it every 3 month when I come for a visit will they keep it. They said yes, and now I am kind of a POND KEEPER ! This time I cleaned all I could and pruned the vegetation.
Here is a photo journal of my first pond experience;
Photo No.1 - Me removing the over grown vegetation. You can see that the water is not deeper than 60cm. Pond has to be topped up with more water, but no one did it in ages. The deepest spot is 90cm. The pond is approx. 10 meters long and 4 meters wide.
I removed lots of Duck weed, but there is still lots left behind. Impossible to get rid of it.

Here is the Frog season, there are millions of small frogs all over the land.
This water Lilly is the only beautiful part of the pond at the moment.

Cleaning took over 5 hours, just to realise that there is still lots of decaying leaves left at the bottom. I did best I could.
The pond look; BEFORE
and AFTER
Next time I will try to make a Water fall with filter that should give some, desperately needed, circulation and oxygenation.
